Interview for ProZáhorí: my grandfather, tournaments and talents from around the world

The ProZáhorí news portal asked me who taught me chess, how we helped a talented boy from India and what the tournaments bring to people in Skalica who do not play chess.

The regional news portal ProZáhorí interviewed me about chess and about the tournaments we organise in Skalica.

My grandfather taught me chess when I was four. In the interview I also tell the story of a fourteen-year-old boy from India whom we accommodated at our own expense at the second edition of the tournament – today he is a grandmaster, and this year he came back to Skalica.

Asked what a local who does not play chess gets from the tournaments, I said: “Imagine 250 to 300 people living here for ten days. They go out for coffee, lunch, dinner and a beer, buy trdelník and wine, visit the Baťa Canal, go to hockey and football matches. They spend money here that would otherwise never come to Skalica.”

The full interview (in Slovak) is available on the ProZáhorí portal.
